Kimono: H&M, Top: Finders, Jeans: Forever 21
My friend Kaysey from Portrait Of A Fashionista suggested we head to the Distillery District to shoot a few pictures and of course, catch up on some girl talk. Once we arrived the clouds began to gather as if eagerly awaiting our arrival in order to literally rain on our parade. In addition, my camera decided it didn't need to focus because blurry pictures are all the rage (later realized I had mistakenly turned autofocus off...oops!). Nevertheless, we persevered!
Ever since I spotted a beautiful kimono jacket in a thrift shop while visiting Vancouver, I was on the hunt to find the perfect piece to bring home with me. At the time I barely gave it a second glance, but of course when I got back home I couldn't stop thinking about it. So began my search for the perfect kimono.
Currently, kimonos are pretty trendy so you can easily find them in many high-street shops such as Topshop, Zara, H&M etc. However, it's difficult to find one that doesn't look too much like a house coat or isn't made of thin cheap fabric you know won't stand the test of time. That's why when I stumbled across this beauty (in H&M of all places) while I was meant to be shopping for a friends birthday gift, it was love at first sight.
All background noise faded, a spotlight appeared over it, and a soft voice whispered in my ear "Bolu you must try that on".
Okay, maybe it was no where near that dramatic but I was pretty excited and instantly drawn to this kimono because of the rich navy colour and muted floral design. It's definitely a statement piece but not so loud that it won't go on most outfits. A kimono is one of those pieces that can transition from a casual comfy daytime look to a chic evening look with ease. You can choose to throw it over a dress with some strappy heels or pair it with a tank and some cutoff shorts. You literally can't go wrong with either option-- a flowly coat always wins.
The main takeaway from all of this is that when something catches your eye, don't question it, just buy it ;)
And when it rains on your parade, treat yourself to waffles covered in chocolate and strawberries.
Till next time,
